Is this how to live a happy life?

Is this how to live a happy life?

Everybody wants to achieve it. Reading this article will probably bring you a big step towards understanding how to live a happy life. Today, just like every morning I got up at 7 AM and started my regular morning routine which includes reading at least 30 Minutes of a self-development book. (Read more about my morning routine)
The book I’m currently reading is called “The 4-Hour Workweek: Escape 9-5, Live Anywhere, and Join the New Rich” . It’s generally about three things:

  • Creating a business that generates passive income for you
  • Liberating your time, making time to travel the world and the concept of “Mini-Retirements”
  • Achieving real, lasting happiness because that’s not easy, even with all the freedom in the world

(You can get the book here)

I’m right now getting towards the end of the book where Tim Ferriss talks about how to live a happy life while having all this freedom of time and money. He talks about the fact that many people then start rushing through life, wanting to do everything at once. This is NOT how to achieve a happy life.

Tim is sharing a poem with the readers and I think this poem clearly expresses what life is all about so I wanted to share it with you.

The poem

Have you ever watched kids on a merry-go-round,
or listened to rain slapping the ground?

Ever followed a butterfly’s erratic flight,
or gazed at the sun fading into the night?

You better slow down, don’t dance so fast,
time is short, the music won’t last.

Do you run through each day on the fly,
when you ask “How are you?”, do you hear the reply?

When the day is done, do you lie in your bed,
with the next hundred chores running through your head?

You better slow down, don’t dance so fast,
time is short, the music won’t last.

Ever told your child, we’ll do it tomorrow,
and in your haste, not see his sorrow?

Ever lost touch, let a friendship die,
’cause you never had time to call and say hi?

You better slow down, don’t dance so fast,
time is short, the music won’t last.

When you run so fast to get somewhere,
you miss half the fun of getting there.

When you worry and hurry through your day,
it’s like an unopened gift thrown away.

Life isn’t a race, so take it slower,
hear the music before your song is over.
